#8 Mess Hall

Mess Hall 1927

The Mess Hall is the oldest standing building in camp dating back to the first year the camp opened in 1927. In 1929 the fireplace and windows were added and some time later a pot-bellied stove was installed so it could be used as a winter cabin. (See if you can find the hole where the chimney pipe went through!) The menu served here has included everything from a complete banquet to coffee flavored with an old sox! The Mess Hall served many functions including a camp theatre, a recreation hall, and a church. In 1977, the Mess Hall was renovated for winter use with conference room, trading post, and a museum. It was also renamed the King Camp Center. Then in 1995 it was renovated back into a full kitchen making it once again a Mess Hall.
